New AI technology that could help write the documents that are needed to discharge people from hospital could get patients home more quickly and free up beds on busy wards.
It is hoped the technology will help cut waiting lists by giving frontline staff time to handle other tasks.
The technology is currently being developed at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust, and is one of many projects to receive backing from the Prime Minister as part of the AI Exemplars programme.

Jade Leung has been appointed the prime minister's AI adviser, supporting him to unlock the benefits of artificial intelligence.
As part of the role she will work to position the UK as the leading nation to help unlock the benefits and prepare for the impacts of transformative AI, while working closely with the Prime Minister to harness the technology.
She also currently serves as the chief technology officer of the AI Security Institute.
She will report directly to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology.

From September single bus fares will cost £1 and day tickets £3 for young people.
The Welsh Government is reminding people aged between 16 and 21 that they have two weeks to sign up for a free mytravelpass to make sure they can take full advantage of the £1 bus fare when the pilot scheme begins.
Passengers will need to present the travel pass to the driver as proof of age.
£15m is being provided over two financial years (2025-26 and 2026-27) to support £1 bus fares for 16 to 21-year-olds.

The north-west Scotland EV Infrastructure Fund project has awarded more than £3 million to a group of local authorities to help them collaborate with the private sector and expand public electric vehicle charging provision.
Led by HITRANS, the north-west Scotland EV Infrastructure Fund project involves Argyll and Bute, Orkney, Shetland and Comhairle nan Eileen Siar (Western Isles) councils.

More than 350,000 Baby Boxes have been delivered across Scotland, saving expectant parents around £400.
The Scottish Government’s universal Baby Box programme is offered to all parents of newborn babies and is the only one of its kind in the UK.
The programme is backed by almost 8 million in funding for 2025-26.
The programme first opened in June 2017 and since the start, 350,000 Baby Boxes have been delivered across Scotland with 1,281 Baby Boxes being delivered to families in NHS Western Isles.

Wandsworth Council has expanded its free school meals eligibility for secondary pupils, meaning hundreds of additional children will be able to access free food from September 2025.
Previously, only children whose parents whose income was below £7,400 qualified, but the council is expanding the cohort of eligible children before they go back to school.
The change is expected to save some families up to £500 per child over the year, and will improve pupils’ wellbeing and focus by providing them with a free and nutritious meal during the school day.

The first minister of Scotland has opened a £26 million facility to help grow more trees for Scotland’s forests and woodlands.
Newton Tree Nursery will support Forestry and Land Scotland to almost treble their tree production, from seven million to nearly 20 million trees per year by 2029.
The investment will help support the sustainable management of Scotland’s national forests and land and help tackle the climate emergency, while also supporting the rural economy.

The Planning Inspectorate is asking customers, consumers and users to improve digital services.
The Inspectorate is looking for participants to take part in online research sessions, which will last between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
The Inspectorate will ask for feedback on existing as well as potentially new features.
The feedback will help inform the development of more effective and user-friendly experiences across services.

The government has announced £9.5 million of funding for local charities and councils to help get people online.
The Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund is designed to boost grassroots efforts to help the 1.6 million people in the UK who can’t access to online world.
The investment will support ways of tackling digital exclusion, which could include putting on workshops to familiarise people with tech or schemes donating devices like phones and laptops to the digitally excluded.

The Welsh Government has made available to local authorities £30 million in additional funding to strengthen community-based social care services and improve hospital discharge processes.
Local authorities will channel the funding towards ctions that will support timely assessments and the availability of packages of care to ensure people can leave hospital when they are clinically able to.
The funding will be used to strengthen community-based social care and support services to help people to stay well at home.
