£275 million infrastructure fund share for 28 councils

The funding will aim to enhance safety repairs, bridge renewals, drainage improvements and street lighting.

In an effort to drive modern standards in local residencies, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: "Good quality local roads are essential for people to get on with their daily business and today’s announcement will provide extra capacity where it is needed most. This government has put record funding in place for local roads as part of our long-term economic plan to improve journeys, create jobs and drive economic growth."

The announcement is part of the £6 billion funding for local road maintenance announced in December 2014, and the 28 councils are successful applicants of the The Local Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund, which was announced in August last year.
