Young workers often denied necessary training

Meeting during the Year of Young Workers, local government delegates at the Unison Local Government Conference backed a motion calling for improved access to training for them.

Young workers are often denied training because of austerity, yet this will mean a skills shortage in the future. Proposing the motion for the national young members’ forum, the conference heard that workplace training and development is raised as significantly deficient in our workplaces.

Unison members pointed out how training is cheaper than re-hiring and is needed for ‘accessible and meaningful work’.
