Leaders of 18 Yorkshire authorities have submitted a detailed and concrete proposal to government to deliver a One Yorkshire devolution deal.
The result of several month’s consultation, the submission follows Sajid Javid’s request for such a proposal at the recent Yorkshire & North Lincolnshire APPG meeting.
The leaders also welcomed the Communities Secretary’s admission that the government would not stand in the way of any One Yorkshire proposal that had widespread support and agreed this detailed plan was exactly that.
Sheffield and Rotherham councils were not signatories to the plan. A devolution agreement for the Sheffield region had originally been signed in 2015, but lacked the support of Barnsley and Doncaster MBCs, both of whom favoured a One Yorkshire devolution deal.
