Aberdeen Council considering nearly 400 job cuts
Reports have suggested that Aberdeen City Council is to cut 230 full-time posts in an attempt to cut costs, while 140 roles that are currently vacant will not be filled in future.
Facing a £125 million funding hole, the council, which is the lowest-funded in Scotland, is hoping to save over £10 million in the next financial year. The authority has also stated that the job losses will hopefully be voluntary and distant from compulsory redundancies.
Angela Scott, chief executive of Aberdeen City Council, said: “We are committed to managing the reduction in posts in as sensitive and understanding way as we can. As opportunities for change are identified, primarily as a result of teams coming together in the functional structure and highlighting duplication, employees will be involved through both engagement and consultation.”
