Councils need urgent and sustainable PPE supply
There is a desperate need for more personal protective equipment for frontline council and care services across the country.
The Local Government Association has been pressing the government to ensure adequate supplies of PPE reach those who need it as soon as possible. A one-off emergency drop of PPE is in the process of being delivered to Local Resilience Forums across the country to distribute to care staff and other frontline workers.

A new study has suggested that school closures do not appear to have a significant effect on the spread of coronavirus.
It is the first study to look at the evidence and emerging data on the benefit of school closures and other school social distancing interventions in outbreaks such as SARS, MERS and Covid-19. Sixteen studies were examined by the research team at University Collge London.

£1.3 million fund to support tourism destinations
Tourism Minister Nigel Huddleston has launched a new emergency fund to support local tourism organisations throughout the coronavirus outbreak.
It means that organisations at risk of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic will receive financial support thanks to a new £1.3 million scheme launched by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
