The government has announced £30 million for coastal communities across England to battle shore erosion.
As part of the Environment Agency’s new Coastal Adaptation Pilots, £18 million will be shared between coastal projects across the East Riding of Yorkshire, Norfolk and Suffolk to continue advanced coastal adaptation work.
The money could be spent on selective property purchases or long-term financing solutions in areas where homes face imminent risk from erosion.

The Scottish Government has announced £40 million to boost sport and physical activity.
The announcement is part of targeted funding designed to capitalise on a “spectacular summer of sport”, by providing free, accessible and inclusive access to sporting opportunities for Scotland’s children and young people.
In June, the men's football team will compete at the FIFA World Cup finals for the first time in 28 years and Glasgow will host the Commonwealth games from July.

Welsh cabinet secretary for housing and local government, Jayne Bryant, has announced funding for the next round of the Optimised Retrofit Programme (ORP), bringing the total investment since 2020 to more than £466 million.
The programme provides funds for improvements including insulation, efficient heating systems and renewable energy installations in social housing.
So far, it has funded more than 31,000 energy efficiency upgrades to social homes across Wales, including insulation, solar panels and heat pumps.

The government has announced the biggest boost to grant funding in a generation, alongside energy-saving standards, to cut the cost of living for millions of social tenants.  
New measures will give councils, housing associations, and other providers greater financial support to ramp up construction of new homes.
The aim is to bring bring down record-high numbers of families and children stuck in temporary accommodation or on housing waiting lists.  

Under a new law, accommodation providers in Wales will be required to register with the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA).
The legal requirement will apply to anyone who charges guests to stay overnight in Wales - this could include spare rooms, holiday cottages, cabins, campsites and hotels.
Registration will be required whether accommodation is let for a single night, occasionally, seasonally or all year round.

991 community projects across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have been awarded funding through the Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme in 2025/26.
The money will be spent on new all-weather pitches, extended playing hours through floodlighting, modern changing facilities designed to welcome underserved groups like women and girls.
It is hoped that the new and refurbished facilities will enable families to stay active on their doorsteps.
At least half of all funding will go directly to the 30% most deprived communities in the UK.

The government has announced plans to improve how public sector data is used.
Five new kickstarter projects have been launched. The Government Digital Service and public sector bodies will test how connecting data across energy, social care, legal records and weather insights can deliver better services to tackle everyday challenges.

£20 million will be invested into towns in southern Scotland to create jobs and drive growth.
Nine towns have published proposals developed by volunteer-led teams. Ideas and business cases are now being defined ahead of funding decisions.
Proposals include a promenade and indoor family attractions in Stranraer and a town centre regeneration project providing social housing and retail space in Galashiels.
Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes visited MacArts, a music and arts venue being considered for funding in Galashiels.

New regulations to protect tenants from damp and mould are to be laid in the Scottish Parliament.
If approved by parliament, the Investigation and Commencement of Repair (Scotland) Regulations 2026 will introduce new duties on landlords to investigate reports of damp and mould and start any repairs needed within a set timescale.
The regulations are the first set for the implementation of Awaab’s Law in Scotland.
