Disposable vapes to be banned
The government has announced that disposable vapes are to be banned as part of plans to tackle the rise in youth vaping and protect children's health.
Recent figures show the number of children using vapes in the past three years has tripled and 9 per cent of 11 to 15-year-olds are now using vapes.
The proportion of 11 to 17-year-old vapers using disposable vapes has increased almost ninefold in the last two years.

60 per cent of England covered by devolution deals
According to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, 60 per cent of the English population will now live in an area covered by a devolution deal.
The announcement comes after a devolution dal was signed with Devon County Council and Torbay Council.
Two years ago, when the levelling up plan was published, 41 per cent of the population was living in devolution areas.

Work begins on two new social care facilities in Flintshire
Work has begun on two new integrated health and social care community facilities in Flintshire.
The projects are backed by more than £14 million in Welsh Government funding.
A residential care home is set to open in Flint, to house 56 older people on the site of a former community hospital when complete.
An existing care home I the area is being relocated and expanded from its current 31-bed facility.

Funding to build green heat networks
A new green heating project has received a share of £80.6 million to heat nearly 2,000 homes and business with sewer power.
Waste heat from Bolton's sewer will be used to heat homes and businesses in the town. The project is backed with £11 million.
Energy will be extracted from both sewage and waste hot water from washing machines, bathrooms and kitchens to fuel a new heat pump, as part of Bolton’s first district heating network.
Other projects in Exeter, Hull and London have also received funding.

The government has announced the councils across England will receive a £600 million support package to help them deliver key services. This is in addition to the funding outlined in the provisional settlement.
£500 million of the funding will be added to the Social Care Grant to bolster social care budgets, a key concern raised by councils.

The projects are designed to highlight good practice in tackling coastal erosion and are due to be delivered in 2024-25.

Government funding to help industry reach net zero
12 winners from the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan competition have been announced, with each set to benefit from a share of up to £6 million to develop plans for a low carbon future.
The money will give the competition winners the chance to work together on plans to cut their emissions, learning from each other while also having access to technical advisors to prepare for adopting measures such as using hydrogen or carbon capture.

The government has launched a new account on WhatsApp Channels, to which members of the public will be able to subscribe to receive important updates to their phones.
Messages will cover topics like updating on public services, news updates that affect a large part of the population or pointing to new guidance and public resources.
Channels are one way only and users can opt in or out at any time.

Increase in syphilis and gonorrhoea putting pressure on sexual health services
The Local Government Association (LGA) has revealed that more than two thirds of council areas have seen an increase in rates of gonorrhoea and syphilis since 2017.
The LGA has warned that sexual health services are at breaking point and has called on the government to to provide extra funding so local sexual health clinics can meet rising demand and publish a long-term plan to help prevent and treat sexually transmitted infections.
