Swinney sets out June Programme for Government
Scottish first minister John Swinney has set out the priorities that his government will focus on.
The Scottish Government aims to focus on four areas targeted to have the most immediate benefits for people in their everyday lives, this includes eradicating child poverty; growing the economy; tackling the climate emergency; and improving public services.
The first minister has also confirmed that he will present his first Programme for Government before the Scottish Parliament’s summer recess.

Met gives update on Grenfell investigation
The Metropolitan Police has published an update on the criminal investigation into the Grenfell Tower investigation, ahead of the seventh anniversary on 15 June.
There are still 180 officers and staff working on the investigation, to identify if there were any criminal offences, and if so, who is responsible.
So far, detectives are investigating 19 companies or organisations and 58 individuals as suspects and interviewed under caution over 50 suspects for a total of more than 300 hours.

A £20 million Levelling Up Partnership is planned to 'turbo-charge regeneration and boost opportunities' across Torquay, Paignton and Brixham to ensure they can thrive.

General election scheduled for 4 July
The prime minister has announced that the general election will be held on 4 July.
He made the announcement in a statement outside parliament earlier today.
It was already known that the election would be held in the second half of the year, but July is earlier than many expected.
The announcement follows recent council elections where the Conservatives suffered widespread losses.
