£165 milion of plans to revamp high schools in Salford have been approved by the council.
Some schools are to be rebuilt, while others are to be refurbished and enhanced.
The plans include The Swinton and Moorside High Schools to close and a new-build single campus, including provision from age three to 16 as a new, larger Moorside Primary School would be built as well.
Also, Wentworth High School to get a partial new-build plus refurbishment, with a minimum 750-pupil capacity and the provision of a Learning Recovery Unit and provision for children on the autistic spectrum.
Plans also include to rebuild St Ambrose Barlow RC High School, St Patrick's RC High School and Oasis Academy MediaCityUK and refurbish and enhance All Hallows RC High School and St George’s RC High School to their existing capacity.
Construction has started at Walkden High School for 1,500 pupils and at Irlam and Cadishead Community High School for 900, 11-16 pupils, with a 150-place sixth-form to open in September 2011.
Salford City Council leader Council leader Councillor John Merry said: "Our BSF plan is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for all of our schools and there is no agenda here other than providing a long-lasting legacy for our city."
