Whitehall launches pop-up shop for entrepreneurs

A Whitehall department is throwing open its doors to new entrepreneurs in order to help them set up shop.

The Department for Communities and Local Government is opening a pop-up shop inside its headquarters near Victoria station in London, offering low-cost retail floorspace for fledgling businesses to showcase their wares.

Every two weeks, six new business startups will move in, sharing costs and trialing their products with the public. Ministers hope the scheme can provide a blueprint for using empty floorspace in town centres across Britain.

Communities secretary Eric Pickles said: "We are absolutely determined to support the high street and we know pop-ups are a great way to bring empty shops back to life and get new businesses going.

It will also showcase how we can unleash more of our best and brightest young entrepreneurs onto the country's high streets."
