A £35 million waste contract serving households across Stafford Borough is to be awarded to Veolia.
Stafford Borough Council announced that the household waste and recycling 10 year contract, the largest ever awarded by the council, will begin in February next year, once the existing contract with Biffa expires.
The council has assured residents that the service will remain the same, operating general waste and recycling collections on alternate weeks.
Frank Finlay, cabinet member for Environment and Health, said: “We want this important service to our residents to continue to be delivered in an excellent manner. We have undertaken a thorough tendering exercise to find a partner who can deliver a household waste collection service that our householders expect while providing value for money for local council tax payers.”
The borough currently recycles more than 54 per cent from the bins of over 57,000 local households.
