Poole Council abandons £250k civic centre, following opposition

Poole Council has scrapped plans for a £250,000 revamp of its civic centre after widespread criticism.

The controversial upgrade was denounced by critics who claimed the building could close if plans to combine the county's nine councils into two goes ahead, which could lead to a complete waste of funds.

Responding to the opposition, the council said it ‘recognises concerns at the cost of the works’ and would look at a cheaper alternative. The re-think was announced just one week after councillor May

Haines, leader of the council, initially announced the local authority would press ahead with the move.
