The Children and Young People and Safeguarding cabinet has updated the council’s pledge to Derby’s children in care.
Last year, the council launched the pledge which was written by Derby’s Children in Care Council (CiCC) and details what Derby’s looked after children and young people can expect from the council.
An event was organised by councillor Sara Bolton in July with the CiCC and senior staff to hear their views.
Following the event, Derby City Council has now pledged to create more apprenticeship and work experience opportunities for children in care so they can lead successful and fulfilling careers.
Sara Bolton, cabinet member for Children and Young People and Safeguarding, said: “As a council, our aim is to constantly improve the services we offer, in order to improve the lives of children in our care. I will always listen and act on any feedback I receive.
“Furthermore, I am committed to taking a leading role in making sure that the council fulfils its duty to those in its care so this is another great step towards that.”
