Labour leadership contender Lisa Nandy has said that her party should invite council leaders to attend its shadow cabinet.
Seeking both to rebuild the party following the general election and give the party’s grassroots a significant boost, the Wigan MP said that a change in its policies on local government was likely and that the approach to local councillors would strengthen Labour’s work in regaining the scores of ‘red wall’ seats lost in December. Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour lost 59 constituencies in their worst defeat since 1935.
