The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has announced that training providers across England can bid for a share of £8.85 million government funding to offer courses in retrofitting and installing insulation.
It is hoped that the training will equip thousands of people with the right skills to make homes more energy efficient, and reduce emissions and energy bills.
The courses will be free or provided at low cost, and will cover a range of key energy efficiency measures, from putting in loft insulation to draft proofing measures.

The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has launched a consultation on a new set of standards for social landlords, intended to protect tenants and improve the service they receive.
The regulations would apply to all social landlords including councils and housing associations, as current standards do. However the new standards are set to be stronger and give tenants more power to hold their landlord to account.

Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities announced the long-term plan for housing in a speech in which he laid out the plans.

The Scottish government has announced £3.2 million to be shared across more than 50 projects tackling social isolation and loneliness.
The Social Isolation and Loneliness Fund will be dispensed to organisations such as community choirs, walking football, Men’s Sheds and volunteering opportunities.
On a visit to Inverness Foodstuff, one of the successful projects, equalities minister Emma Roddick said:

The Social Housing (Regulation) Act has received Royal Assent and is set to become law.
The act introduces several changes, including strengthening the Regulator of Social Housing to carry out regular inspections of the largest social housing providers and the power to issue unlimited fines to rogue social landlords, additional Housing Ombudsman powers to publish best practice guidance to landlords following investigations into tenant complaints and powers to set strict time limits for social landlords to address hazards such as damp and mould.

The Seaford to Eastbourne Nature Recovery Project has launched, aiming to create wildlife-rich habitats, improve climate security, and offer opportunities for the local communities.
The project covers around 12,000 ha of the landscape and seascape of the the Sussex Heritage Coast and hinterland. The project was originally inspired by studies of the chalk aquifers in the area, that demonstrated the importance of healthy chalk grass and chalk heath habitats to maximise deep soil moisture and water infiltration.

The Conservative party have lost two of the three by-elections that were held on Thursday 20th June.
Labour won the Selby and Ainsty by-election, where 25-year-old Keir Mather overturned a majority of over 20,000 to become the youngest current MP sitting in the House of Commons. This is the largest majority Labour have ever overturned at a by-election. This seat was vacated by Nigel Adams.

The Scottish Government has announced £550,000 will be given to more than 30 charities providing local outdoor play initiatives for children to expand their projects.
It is hoped that around 14,000 children living in deprived areas will be able to access more outdoor play opportunities thanks to the funding.
The Outdoor Community Play Fund will will support children and families through the year, including during the school holidays.

By-elections are being held in three constituencies today, following the resignation of three Conservative MPs.
By-elections are taking place in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, Selby and Ainsty and Somerton and Frome.
The Uxbridge seat is vacant due to the resignation of former prime minister Boris Johnson. Johnson won a 7,000 majority there at the last general election in 2019.
Nigel Adams stood down from his Selby and Ainsty seat shortly after Boris Johnson resigned. He had previously won with a 20,000 majority.
