The National Drought Group has meet to discuss preparations for extreme weather.
The group heard the the changing climate means we will see more extreme weather in the coming years.
The meeting was chaired by the Environment Agency and attended by water minister Emma Hardy.
Currently, water resources are healthy following the wettest 12 months on record in England.
However, the group agreed that flood and drought should be viewed as different sides of the same coin and England needs to be prepared for an increase of both in the coming years.

The council is part of a consortium, along with four other authorities across the Midlands.

Legislation proposing the removal of hereditary peers in the House of Lords has had its second reading in the House of Commons.
The House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) Bill will remove the right of the remaining 92 hereditary peers to sit and vote in the House of Lords.
The Bill is part of the government's manifesto commitment to update the UK’s constitution, delivering long overdue and essential reform to the heart of Westminster.
The UK is one of only two countries in the world with a hereditary element in its legislature - the other being Lesotho.

£30 million of funding from Homes England has been announced to transform Sunderland's former industrial heartland into a new urban quarter.
Sunderland City Council and Homes England have agreed a funding package that will help accelerate the ongoing transformation at Riverside Sunderland. The council will be providing £49.94 million. The total infrastructure investment will be almost £80 million.

£68 million has been announced to unlock brownfield sites for housing.
54 councils are set to get a share of the money to turn neglected land into new homes. It is hoped the funding will transform local communities and help families onto the property ladder.
The funding can be used by councils to clear empty buildings, former car parks and industrial land to make way for homes.

Closing the International Investment Summit, the chancellor has announced new plans to secure investment in the UK.
In her speech, chancellor Rachel Reeves revealed that restoring fiscal stability will be at the centre of her first budget at the end of the month.
Two new bodies are set to drive long-term investment in Britain as the government plans to work with business to create new high skilled jobs across the country.

The Met Office has launched a Local Authority Climate Service. The tool will provide local authorities with easy access to tailored information on climate change, to support local climate change adaptation planning.
Working with Esri UK, the Met Office has built the new operational service to help local authorities visualise climate challenges, explore climate projections and communicate a climate story specific to their local areas.  

The Mayor of London has appointed Kaya Comer-Schwartz as the city's new Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime.
Kaya Comer-Schwartz has been a councillor in Islington for more than a decade and served as Council Leader for more than three years. She has previously worked as Executive Member for Community Safety and Children, Young People and Families, championing equality, public safety and community cohesion.  

The Environment Agency has launched Flood Action Week to make sure that everyone knows their flood risk.
Flood Action Week takes place from 14-20 October and is launched on year on from Storm Babet. According to the Met Office, Storm Babet saw the third wettest three-day period in a series for England and Wales since 1891.
During the Storm, around 2,150 properties were flooded, though 96,900 properties were protected by the Environment Agency.

Eight energy and nature experts have been appointed to the Clean Power 2030 Advisory Commission to help accelerate the government’s world leading target to deliver clean power by 2030.
The Clean Power 2030 Advisory Commission will support Chris Stark, Head of Mission Control, in developing a Clean Power 2030 system.
Expertise will be added to deliver the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, which is expected later this year. The Action Plan will set out the path to decarbonise the electricity grid.
