Royal United Hospital launches recycling units for patients, visitors and staff

The Royal United Hospital in Bath now has over 50 recycling units for patients, visitors and staff to recycle their waste.

As part of a project co-ordinated and part funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council, The Recycle Zone is the first project of its kind in a hospital in the south west and seeks to improve recycling in public places so that people can recycle when they are away from home.

Although hospital staff already recycle, this will be the first time visitors and patients can recycle some of the things they usually recycle at home.

The units are being placed at various public locations across the hospital including restaurants, education centre and the bus stop.

The initiative is funded by the Waste and Resources Action Programme and Coca-Cola Enterprises.

Councillor Charles Gerrish, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, said: "This has been a great example of partnership working and I am delighted that our residents can now recycle their magazines, newspapers, cans and plastic bottles when they visit the hospital, instead of throwing them away."
