Faced with increasing pressure to do more with less, all kinds of organisations are looking at ways to work smarter and local government is no exception.
Blazequel specializes in fire safety solutions the waste management industry. We’ve gained in-depth knowledge of the industry’s risks, processes, and the unique challenges fire protection systems face in these demanding applications.
The presence of fires is almost a given in the waste industry. However, in recent years this has been exacerbated due to batteries in waste streams caused by the lack of general knowledge (or willingness) to dispose of them properly.
One of our clients told us that “one the biggest issues we face in the recycling industry are fires caused by lithium-ion batteries which can remain undetected in waste streams and can have a devastating effect on our business”.
Why is the Waste Industry so challenging?
The heightened fire risk is the obvious reason. Many hundreds of fires a year occur at waste sites. They can strike at any time, in many places, and be caused by any number of ignition sources.
Beyond the fire risk, systems that can’t withstand harsh environments won’t last long. Moisture and dust can quickly coat and damage detection components and electronics, leading to false alarms and critical equipment failures.
Finally, some systems are prone to false alarms from dust or steam, while fires can be obscured from line-of-sight systems by bunker walls or vehicles.
All the above prove how careful planning is critical to designing a suitable fire protection system.
Past Projects
Our projects have covered many different sizes of installation, from small Fire Alarm Upgrades through to complete plant fit-outs. See below some examples:
1. Complete Fit-Out of Material Pelletising Plant
2. Complete Fit-Out of Material Recycling Facility
Customer Comments - "Blazequel were very knowledgeable about the different fire protection and detection systems available."
The full case study can be found here.
3. Fire Alarm Upgrade
Customer Comments – "Within weeks of installation the system had detected a small fire which if remained undetected could have caused a major fire. I would highly recommend Blazequel as a company for all your fire safety requirements."
Blazequel’s Approach
An understanding of the site is critical in designing an effective solution. There are many factors that can influence not only what systems are suitable, but how those systems are distributed around the facility. These factors include:
Once the above information is obtained, a bespoke design can be created to meet the site-specific requirements. Following our customer-centric ethos, we always look at our designs through the lens of “if this was my site, what would I want to install”.
Blazequel’s Systems & Solutions
Our systems and solutions cover the entirety of the Waste Industry. These include:
1. Fire Rover System
With over 750 installs globally, the Fire Rover System is uniquely suited to Waste Industry applications. Three detection technologies work in unison providing unparallelled detection, and a remotely controlled water cannon enables highly-effective targeted suppression. This system is in the final stages of gaining FM approval as a stand-alone fire suppression system. See the system in action here.
2. Shredder Deluge System
With 2x systems commissioned in 2025 already, our Shredder Deluge System provides comprehensive suppression over the Shredder Hopper and Outfeed Conveyor. This ensures a fire isn’t carried into other areas of the plant. See a recent installation in action here.
3. Flame Detection System
Flame Detection is one of the most reliable detection systems in the industry. It’s reliability and false alarm resilience makes it our go-to option for triggering deluge systems. However, it will only be triggered by the presence of a flame, and objects can obscure.
Blazequel is ready and waiting to meet all of your fire protection needs. Call us or email us today to discuss your requirements.
