Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has delivered his long-awaited Autumn Statement in the House of Commons.
Hunt began his speech by acknowledging that the UK is in a recession and that things will get worse before they improve.
Among the measures announced is a reduction in the threshold for when the highest earners start paying the top rate of tax, from £150,000 to £125,140. This means those earning £150,000 or more will pay just over £1,200 more a year.

Secretary of state for levelling up, housing and communities Michael Gove has addressed parliament on social housing standards.
The address follows the death of Awaab Ishak, which a coroner recently concluded was linked to mould in his flat.
The two-year-old died in December 2020, after prolonged exposure to mould in his one-bedroom flat in Rochdale.
According to reports, his parents repeatedly raised concerns about the condition of their home to their landlord, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, the local housing association.

Though nothing has yet been confirmed, it is expected that the state pension and benefits will rise with prices and energy support will continue beyond April, but will not be as generous.
It is also expected that the health budget will increase in real terms.
It is anticipated that there will be a windfall tax on the energy industry to help pay for energy support.

Scottish deputy first minister, John Swinney has warned against a return to austerity ahead of the UK government's Autumn Statement.
He called for an alternative to austerity to avoid prolonging the expected recession.
Swinney also set out other urgent priorities including inflationary increases to the 2022-23 budgets for the devolved governments, increasing social security benefits in line with the new financial year, retaining the triple lock on pensions and introducing an enhanced windfall tax.

A Grenfell Tower site community online meeting was held on 1 November, which included updated on activity at the site including maintenance and safety works.
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has published an update and shared a video of the meeting online. The video is 20 minutes long.
The meeting was led by Matt Hogan, head of site management, DLUHC and Steve Jones, DUK, principal contractor for the Grenfell Tower site.

3,000 hectares of the Lake District is to become a National Nature Reserve.
The new National Nature Reserve is being created in Ennerdale, West Cumbria by Natural England.
It is set to be the largest nature reserve in the county and the ninth largest in England.
The reserve will include water, forest and mountains.

A £20 million government fund has been launched to support councils to crack down on landlords who profit through benefit claims but fail to support their vulnerable residents.

The Local Government Association has said that the upcoming Autumn Statement is an opportunity to reverse plans to curtail adult learning provision.

The Blackpool Central project, which had stalled because there was no funding to move the Magistrates and County Courts currently situated in the proposed site, is now going ahead.
