Funding announced for grass-root sports facilities
The government has announced funding for grassroots facilities across the UK.
The ongoing UK-wide £300 million invested is intended to build capacity in in underserved areas and underrepresented groups, as well as improve access to high-quality facilities and increase participation in grass roots sports in Wales.
43 sites across Wales will receive a share of £1.2 million as part of the government's investment in sport facilities in collaboration with the Cymru Football Foundation.

Government announces funding to improve walking and cycling routes
The government has announced £200 million to improve walking and cycling routes around the country.
The newly funded schemes are expected to generate up to 16 million more walking and cycling trips a year across the country.
The funding is intended to enhance rural connections, create 120 miles of cycling track and see 130 more schemes to help over 35,000 children on their way to school. The improved routes will boost healthier travel options and grow the economy.
265 schemes in 60 areas will receive a share of the funding.

New flood warning service rolled out across Yorkshire
The Environment Agency has expanded its flood warning service across Yorkshire so that more people can be warned about any imminent risk of flooding.
The new flood warnings will cover 3,786 properties and involve a warning message being issued when flooding is forecast and then again to warn users if impacts are likely. The warning system is now being expanded to properties that were previously considered too remote , rural, or difficult to warn of flooding because of lack of power supply.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and Department of Health and Social Care have launched and Older People's Housing Taskforce to boost suitable housing options for older people.
The government-appointed taskforce met for the first time in London. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, working with the Department for Health and Social Care, has brought together a team of experts to lead the work. The group will report back to Government on how it can improve housing for older people.

The new resource offers practical and accessible support to improve the cyber security of connected places or smart cities across the UK.

Bus fare cap extended

Bus fare cap extended
The government has announced that the £2 cap on some bus routes will be extended until 31 October. The cap will then be increased to £2.50 until November 2024.
Transport secretary Mark Harper confirmed £300 million of funding to "protect vital routes and improve services until 2025 that people rely on for work, education, medical appointments and shopping."
There will also be £200 million to continue capping single bus fares at £2 outside London until the end of October 2023 and then at £2.50 until 30 November 2024.

UK's first autonomous bus drives off in Edinburgh
The UK's first driverless bus has been launched in Edinburgh, with passenger service beginning on Monday 15th May.
Scotland's transport minister, Kevin Stewart, was joined at the launch at the Traffic Scotland National Control Centre by Ray O’Toole, executive chairman for Stagecoach, as well as representatives from each of the CAVForth partners.
The AB1 service is believed to be the first registered bus service in the world to use full sized autonomous buses.
