Prime minister Sir Keir Starmer and education secretary Bridget Phillipson have launched a new body intended to meet the skills needs of the next decade.
Skills England will create a shared national ambition to boost the nation’s skills, transform opportunities and drive growth.
Phillipson has appointed Richard Pennycook CBE, former chief executive of the Co-operative Group and lead non-executive director at the DfE, as the interim Chair.

The Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill has been introduced to Parliament.

Skills for Care, the workforce development body for adult social care in England, has launched a new Workforce Strategy for adult social care in England.
The strategy comes as new data shows the sector still has a vacancy rate around three times higher than the wider economy.
The Strategy aims to improve the quality of roles in adult social care, ensuring that the sector can attract and keep enough people with the right skills and values to provide the best possible care and support for the people who draw on it.

A ministerial taskforce has been launched to kick off work on the Child Poverty Strategy.
The work & pensions secretary and the education secretary have been appointed as the joint leads of the taskforce.
There will also be a new Child Poverty Unit in the Cabinet Office, which will report into the taskforce. Bringing together expert officials from across government as well as external experts, it will explore how all the available levers across government can be utilised to create an ambitious strategy.

King Charles has set out the new government's plans in a speech to Parliament.
39 bills were outlined in the speech which the government plans to pass in the next parliamentary session.
Awaab’s Law will be extended to enforce building safety tules for private renters as well as social tenants. A Renters’ Rights Bill will ban so-called no fault evictions.
A Planning and Infrastructure Bill is included intended to streamline the process for approving critical infrastructure, and overhaul rules on the compulsory purchase of land.

The Senedd has passed a new bill intended to reform the local tax system in Wales.
The Welsh Government hopes that the bill will make taxes fairer and work better for the future needs of Wales.
For non-domestic (business) rates, the bill will increase how often the values of all non-domestic properties in Wales are updated, to once every three years; provide more flexibility to make changes to reliefs and exemptions; and enable changes to the calculation of payments for different categories of ratepayers.

Welsh first minister Vaughan Gething has resigned from his position after four months.
The resignation comes after three Welsh government ministers and a legal advisor resigned earlier with statements calling on the first minister to resign as well. Cabinet members Mick Antoniw, Lesley Griffiths, Julie James and Jeremy Miles all handed in their resignations.
The announcement comes after a series of controversies. Gething has been criticised for accepted a £200,000 campaign donation from a businessman convicted of environmental offences.
