The results of the Scottish Household Survey 2021 have been released by Scotlands Chief Statistician.
The Scottish Household Survey (SHS) is an annual survey of the general population in Scotland, carried out since 1999.
In 2021, 96 per cent of people rated their neighbourhood as a good place to live. Around two thirds of households were managing well financially. Both of these figures are the same as in 2020.
In 2021, internet access was higher (96 per cent of households) compared to 2020 (93 per cent). Internet use was also up - 95% of adults in 2021 compared to 92% in 2020. There was also a significant increase in internet use amongst older people.
Levels of trust in the health, education and justice systems, and in the police, the Scottish Government and local government, were lower in 2021 than in 2020. Satisfaction with local health services also decreased from 88 per cent in 2020 to 78 per cent in 2021.
In 2021, 70 per cent of adults lived within a five minute walk of their nearest area of green or blue space (such as parks, woods, rivers or coasts), around the same proportion as 2020 (68 per cent). The percentage of adults who visited the outdoors at least once a week decreased from 79 per cent in 2020 to 71 per cent in 2021, with those in the most deprived areas seeing the largest reduction.
