Matthew is the Programme Manager for Air Quality within the Growth and Environment and Public Health Services at Hertfordshire County Council. With a background in Environmental Health and Public Health, Matthew has spent the last 16 years working in local government leading on air quality aspects first in Shropshire (West Midlands) and now in Hertfordshire. Recent work promoted the inclusion of indoor air quality as part of the County Council’s new Healthier Air Strategy.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s Environmental Protection Advisory Panel which influences and delivers the organisation’s policies and stance on air quality and other key environmental pollutants. Between 2021 – 2024 he acted as the Local Authority representative on DEFRA’s Air Quality Information System review. More recently Matt was invited to take up the role of Regional Clean Air Champion within the Clean Air Programme which focussed on clean air research. Matt founded and currently chairs a regional Clean Air Network in the East of England for Public Health partners and academic institutions. The network, supported by DHSC, looks to bring collected efforts together for the greatest benefit to air quality.
