Not another consultancy / managed services provider.

Infratech Digital is something different. We are a dedicated Enterprise Architecture practice focused on helping customers do more with less technology.

The problem with consultancies and managed service providers has become all too obvious. Their advice focuses on “solutions” which add to their bottom line. The answer to every question is always “more consulting” or “buy this technology”.

What is Enterprise Architecture?

Our practice, most often abbreviated to ‘EA’ is to digital what traditional architecture is to construction. Where an architect spends their time getting to know the requirements, and considering locations, designs, materials and construction methods to ensure that the clients’ needs are met with the right ‘solution’ for the right budget, we do exactly the same for our clients digital infrastructure.

We never start with technology, we start with the outcome. The real reason that an organisation exists, what it is trying to accomplish, what value delivering that outcome represents to them.

We work backwards from this state though a deep exploration of the People, Processes and Tools which will best deliver the desired outcome with the greatest quality, flexibility and security.

What type of problems do we solve?

Our customers are faced with one or more of three key problems:

  • Technology which causes friction and gets in the way of ‘getting the work done’
  • Technology which consumes too much time & money for little derived value
  • Technology which exposes the organisation to too much risk (Scaling, cyber or business-continuity).

Each and every one of these problems can be traced back to a single root cause.

Poor design & architecture

We address this by designing, along with our clients, IT service and its supporting infrastructure which is aligned with users (User Experience driven), aligned with value (Financial Operations managed), and Secure-by-Design.

What type of technology do we work with?

Much like architects in construction, we pride ourselves on not working in a single type of technology. An architect who only ever designed with brick would miss out on all the beautiful buildings that can be created with wood, glass, metal and concrete.

That is why we are fiercely technology agnostic.

We do not ‘specialise’ in any particular technology, nor do we align with any ‘partner programs’ offered by an endless choice of vendors.

Our specialism (much as an architect may specialise in offices or garden rooms) is infrastructure. That translates to the critical digital technologies every organisation needs: networks, compute, end-user devices, operations and security. However, that does not mean that we cannot engage with more specialised areas of IT.

What services do we provide?

We break down every customers’ journey through IT into five key stages and our services map to those stages, allowing us to engage with our clients projects at any point in the lifecycle:

  • Procure
When clients are in the process of procuring new technology, we act as ‘client side advocates’ providing a deep level of technology advisory service to put clients on equal footing with suppliers. We will often aid our clients in drafting and scoring Requests for Information / Proposal (‘RFI / RFP’) and Invitations to Tender (‘ITT’). As we are neutral, our focus is on net-client benefit.
  • Deploy
During ‘transformation’ programs or any other refresh and deployment activities, we act as the Principle Architects of the project. We provide the key design services and design assurance to align client expectations with supplier delivery. We can follow the “Design + Build” model where we will act on the clients behalf to select, manage and control the delivery partners, owning the outcome until final delivery.
  • Operate
When IT is in a ‘steady-state’ we perform what we call “Infrastructure eXperience” or IX reviews, scoring the current systems, technology and suppliers for their ability to deliver the capabilities the client needs. The output of this assessment is then used to drive the agenda and priority of future work.
  • Migrate
If stuck between legacy and transformed estates, we help clients with the architectural governance and conformance to push and pull lingering capabilities off the legacy platform either onto the new platform, or onto new processes entirely (sometimes even non-technology based).
  • Divest
Following migration, we assist clients with the final safe decommissioning and disposal of legacy technology. This is done in line with financial, environmental and security considerations. Reuse and Refurbishment is always part of the option plan.

How do we work with clients?

We have three principal types of engagement:

  • Fixed scope of work (outcome based)
  • Rate-card work (assessment scope based)
  • Retainer work (activity level based)

Unlike traditional consultants we are never paid on “time and materials”. We do not expect our customers to understand the depth or complexity of their IT challenges.
