The Conservative Party manifesto is pledging a £1 billion boost for childcare and £2 billion on the 'biggest ever pothole-filling programme'.
Amongst the measures, Boris Johnson's party has promised a childcare boost to increase the availability of after school and holiday childcare, giving parents more flexibility. The funding will go to schools and childcare providers to open up more options to families. The ambition is for 250,000 more primary school children to get onsite childcare over the summer holidays.
This is in addition to the extra £14 billion promised for schools which will mean at least £5,000 for each secondary school pupil and at least £4,000 for each primary school pupil. The manifesto also promises that the government will attract more of the brightest into teaching by raising teachers' starting salaries to £30,000.
Regarding potholes, a Tory government will launch a national pothole filling programme to improve the quality of our roads. Local authorities, which are responsible for the maintenance of roads, will be promised money to fill-in potholes and improve conditions for road users, with £500 million a year set aside over four years on the programme
The Get Brexit Done, Unleash Britain's Potential manifesto, also promises to keep the existing energy price cap and spend£6.3 billion on energy efficiency measures to cut fuel bills in 2.2 million homes, as well as a ban on exporting plastic waste outside the OECD and the first steps towards a Right to Retrain with a £3 billion for a new National Skills Fund.
