Aberdeen Council website hacked

Police are investigating an incident at Aberdeen City Council, after its official website was attacked by hackers.

The local authority’s website was breeched by a hacker group calling itself ‘Team System DZ’, which took over the council’s homepage for more than 150 minutes, just after 7pm on Saturday 28 January.

During the takeover, the homepage displayed the message ‘security stupidity’.

In a statement, the council assured that no personal data had been exposed: “We are aware of a security issue which affected the homepage of our website this evening (28 January) between 19.20 and 10pm and are working urgently to investigate the incident.

"The website is currently back online and we would like to assure residents that no personal data is held on the Aberdeen City Council website."
