Keir Starmer reshuffles shadow cabinet

A new shadow cabinet is in place after Labour leader Sir Kier Starmer undertook a somewhat surprising reorganisation of his top team.

The move has seen Yvette Cooper named Shadow Home Secretary, David Lammy promoted to Shadow Foreign Secretary, replacing Lisa Nandy who begins a new brief scrutinising Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove.

Although former leader Ed Miliband has retained his role over climate change policy, he has seen his Shadow Business Secretary title given to Jonathan Reynolds.

Elsewhere Wes Streeting has been promoted to Shadow Health Secretary, replacing Jonathan Ashworth, who becomes Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary.

Starmer said that the reshuffle would give him a ‘smaller, more focused shadow cabinet that mirrors the shape of the government we are shadowing’.
