Herefordshire Council signs up for Positive Parking

Herefordshire Council has agreed to become a member of the British Parking Association (BPA) and align itself with the principles of the Positive Parking Agenda.

Working with its partner Balfour Beatty Living Places (BBLP), the council seeks to benchmark and proactively engage nationally to deliver parking services and will use the Positive Parking Agenda to further commit to providing an efficient parking service that is fit for all will be underpinned.

The Positive Parking Agenda aims to reduce congestion, helping drivers find spaces quickly and easily, improve road safety, reducing the severity and number of traffic collisions, improve air quality, reducing congestion and dwell time in finding spaces, support a more mobile society by embracing new technology and deliver an effective, efficient and consistent parking management service.

Barry Durkin, cabinet member transport and regulatory services, said: “Joining the BPA and formally adopting the Positive Parking Agenda is great news and will allow the council, in partnership with BBLP, to develop an improved service that is simpler for members of the public to use. This carries many benefits, notably to the local economy by making parking easier for visitors to Hereford and our market towns.

“We have had some successes recently with being one of the first to introduce contactless card payments, resident parking schemes and adopting a more managed approached to parking in Hereford city centre. The principles of the Positive Parking Agenda demonstrate the council’s commitment to providing greater access to places and services for local people and visitors, helping to reduce congestion on our highways network, improving safety and air quality, reducing noise pollution and maintaining the vibrancy of our city and town centres.”

With over 700 member organisations, the BPA offers co-operative links and the opportunity to share knowledge in order to achieve excellence in parking.
