Up to 1,300 new homes for Sheffield

Two developers have been selected to transform two industrial areas of Sheffield into new neighbourhoods with up to 1,300 new homes.

Sheffield City Council and Homes England have appointed Capital&Centric and Great Places Housing Group to jointly develop a neighbourhood at Furnace Hill and igloo Regeneration will work at Neepsend.

At Furnace Hill, a new neighbourhood including around 750 new homes, one third affordable, one third for home ownership, and one third for build-to-rent.

At Neepsend, around 430 new homes will be built, with around one fifth affordable and one tenth for later living.

In total, five hectares of brownfield land will be brought back into use.

The developments will include green spaces and transport links, as well as celebrate local heritage including the Doncaster Street Cementation Furnace, Cornish Works and Don Cutlery Works.

The project is supported by nearly £70 million of government funding.
