Council programme creates jobs for out of work Surrey youngsters
A new programme run by Surrey County Council has created 353 jobs for people aged between 18 and 24 who have been out of work for up to a year.
The roles were created after the Surrey Economic Partnership received nearly £2.3m of funding through the Department for Work and Pensions’ Future Jobs Fund.
The county council, waste company SITA, Surrey Police and the Surrey Care Trust were among those that subsequently provided jobs in areas such as administration, local government, waste management, IT and marketing.
The jobs last for six months and aim to gives people the skills and opportunity to find a permanent position or continue in their current role.
Mark Pearson, chief executive of the Surrey Economic Partnership, said: "We have made a real and significant difference to the lives of 353 young people and helped raise individual skills levels, provide a wide range of employment opportunities and demonstrated to employers that the young people of Surrey can make a valued contribution to Surrey’s bottom line."
