Roger Phillips has been named as the new chair of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) Advisory Board, taking over from Joanne Segars.
Phillips is a member and former leader of Herefordshire Council and is currently the vice chairman of the board. He has also chaired the UK Local Government Pensions Committee for the last two years.
Phillips takes over as the LGPS is working to pool its £220 billion in assets alongside a valuation that may see deficits increase further.
Speaking on his appointment to the role, Phillips said: "I am delighted and honoured to be appointed however I am very aware of the many and varied challenges faced by the scheme and under no illusions about the hard work and tough decisions necessary to ensure its continued sustainability.”
