Amanda Spielman has been confirmed to take over as Ofsted’s next chief inspector in January, despite a cross-party group of MPs moving to block her appointment.
Spielman’s appointment was confirmed by the Privy Council after a rigorous recruitment process conducted in line with the requirements set by the Commissioner for Public Appointments, and was announced by new Education Secretary Justine Greening.
The House of Commons Education Committee had previously said it could not support her appointment, citing ‘significant concerns’ about her suitability for the job, and questioning her qualifications for the position. Spielman is currently chair of Ofqual and a former director of academy chain Ark.
