Dumfries and Galloway Council have issued a statement apologising for a payment error, in which it took direct debit payments from a number of customers ahead of the agreed scheduled date.
The authority said the error in payment covered a range of services it provided but it had ‘very few queries’ about any issues caused by the early payment.
The council assured it would ensure nobody was ‘out of pocket’ as a result of the mistake.
It added: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
The payments were for a range of council services including commercial waste collection, room and hall lets, social care and music instruction.
