150 LMH homes given green light

Plans by Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) to build 150 affordable homes on Edge Lane have been given the go ahead, with development set to start in March next year.

Liverpool City Council’s planning committee approved LMH’s proposals to transform the 1.5-hectare plot bounded by Royston Street, Durning Road, Marmaduke Street and Edge Lane into high-quality housing.

The scheme, worth £20 million, incorporates two primary elements: three and four-storey properties facing Edge Lane, which will host 107 one- and two-bed apartments; behind, facing Royston Street, 38 two- and three-bed homes will be available for LMH Shared Ownership customers.

Each home is to benefit from off-road car and cycle parking spaces, private amenity areas and high-quality fixtures and fittings throughout.

The development is anticipated to complete in 2020.

LMH’s Edge Lane development forms part of the Liverpool Housing Partnership, a collaboration between Liverpool City Council, LMH, Redrow Homes and contractor Willmott Dixon that is creating 1,500 brand new homes across the city.

Steve Coffey, LMH chief executive, said: “Bringing new affordable homes to Edge Lane is great news for the area and will contribute significantly to the exciting transformation underway in this part of our city.

“As part of the main gateway to the city, the development will welcome visitors as well as providing much-needed low-cost home-ownership properties for local people.”

Frank Hont, cabinet member for housing, said: “This scheme is a vital component of the regeneration of Edge Lane. The Knowledge Quarter and Liverpool Shopping Park are transforming each end of this important gateway, and alongside it we are determined to get the right mix and quality of housing for local people.

“This is all about making Edge Lane a great place to live and reverse decades of decline.”
