
Prime minister Keir Starmer has shared his first message to the Civil Service.
He said in the speech this week (10 July) that he was "so pleased to have this early opportunity to speak directly to every one of you working in the Civil Service."
Starmer commented that he saw from his time as Director of Public Prosecutions how much hard work goes into the job.
"It taught me a huge amount about what public service really means," he said.
He said the new government will be "mission-driven" with a "real sense of purpose."
Starmer added: "That’s not just a slogan. It’s about setting clear long-term objectives that drive our decision making and help us to prioritise our work.
He said one of the next steps is to set long-term objectives. These included higher growth, safer streets, secure borders, cleaner energy, and the NHS back on its feet.
"From the get go," he concluded, "I want you to know that– you have my confidence, my support and, importantly, my respect.
"Together, as one team, we can deliver our mission of national renewal and change."
