Thousands of new LED lights to shine across Worcestershire

£6 million will be spent by Worcestershire County Council on street lighting in a bid to complete the replacement of all non-led units to more energy efficient LEDs.

It is expected that approximately 20,000 lights will be replaced with new ones in 2022/23, which will help to significantly cut energy costs.

Over 35,000 LED lanterns have now been installed across Worcestershire, with approximately 20,000 to go to mark the completion of the street light replacement project.

Alan Amos, cabinet member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, said: “This is a budget of boundless ambition and limitless achievement for Worcestershire highways and transport, with spending and investment increasing across the whole network to record levels.  I’m delighted to announce that as part of this, an extra £6m. investment in street lighting will improve both the quality of the illumination whilst reducing the county’s light pollution and energy consumption.’’
