Business confidence 'improving in UK'

According to the Business Confidence Monitor, which is published every quarter, sentiment currently stands at its highest level since 2010.

The survey, which was released by accounting trade body ICAEW, also predicted economic advancement during the second quarter of the year.

However, analysts warned the country continues to be in a position of fragility due to wider problems - and urged businesses not to be complacent about recovery at this time.

Michael Izza, chief executive of ICAEW, said: "There is a gradual improvement in the economy and the recovery is starting to stand on more solid ground."

Mr Izza went on to note economic problems across the eurozone continue to have a knock-on effect on the UK.

The positive findings come despite the International Monetary Fund's recent questioning of the government's position on austerity measures, which the body argued could slow down growth.
