More than 375 leaders from domestic and international institutional investors, developers, housebuilders, regeneration specialists, housing associations, and Combined and Local Authorities have met in London, with the goal of creating new partnerships to increase housebuilding and urban regeneration.
The meeting was part of the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and Homes England’s broader approach to secure new private investment into housing and the renewal of towns and cities.
Lords Minister for Housing and Local Government, Baroness Taylor said: "Our ambition to deliver 1.5 million homes over the next five years will require significant investment and that’s why we’re working closely with investors, local leaders and communities to unlock the capital needed to get Britain building again.
"This week’s symposium builds on the billions of pounds already secured by this government to drive forward regeneration across our towns and cities and these new funds will help us deliver thousands of new homes.
Peter Freeman, chair of Homes England, said: "In order to deliver the government’s ambition of 1.5 million homes across this Parliament, the housing and regeneration sector will need to build at a rate not seen in a generation.
"We will need bold leadership, significant and sustained investment, and a range of innovative public and private sector partnerships that will deliver schemes of all sizes across England.
"This event is about sparking partnerships between the institutional investor community and local and national leaders across towns and cities as well as partners from across the housing and regeneration sector. Partnerships that unite us together behind one common aim: to create more thriving homes and places that people want and need."
