Sturgeon's husband arrested in SNP finance investigation

Peter Murrell, husband of former Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon has been arrested in an investigation into the finances of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

The 58-year-old was taken into custody on Wednesday morning and is being questioned by Police Scotland detectives.

Searches are also being carried out at a number of addresses, inlcuding the couple's home and SNP headquarters.

Murrell has since been released without charge, pending further investigation.

Murrell resigned as chief executive of the SNP last month, after holding the role since 1999.

Sturgeon also resigned as first minister last month. The two have been married since 2010.
