Baldwin Boxall designs life safety communications systems used across government and public sector settings - education, healthcare, prisons, transport and leisure - as well as commercial facilities. With over 40 years of UK design and manufacturing behind us, our products are built to work reliably every day and to deliver clear, unambiguous voice communication when it counts.
We support consultants, contractors, installers and end users across the full project lifecycle, from early design and specification through to commissioning, handover and ongoing maintenance. We’re at our best when we’re working as a partner, staying close to the project and helping teams make decisions they’ll still feel confident about years later.
Certification and quality
When it comes to life safety, you need repeatable quality and a clear audit trail. Baldwin Boxall holds certified management systems including ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management. In practical terms, that means we follow a structured way of working across design, manufacture and support, with environmental responsibility tied to day-to-day choices rather than separate initiatives. To provide further assurance, we’re also Cyber Essentials certified.
Safe and fully certified, our systems and products are built in the UK and backed by our UK-based technical team. We’re so confident in the quality and lifetime value of our products that we give all newly manufactured Baldwin Boxall systems a 7 year warranty as standard.
Voice Alarm and Public Address
Voice Alarm (VA) and Public Address (PA) are often discussed together because both depend on clear speech and robust system design, but they serve different purposes. PA handles day-to-day communication, from routine announcements and operational messaging to background music and controlled communications during local incidents. VA sits within the fire strategy, delivering emergency messages that support an orderly response and, where required, phased evacuation. All our Public Address and Voice Alarm (PA/VA) systems are certified to EN54-4 and EN54-16.
Baldwin Boxall’s VIGIL3 is a dedicated VA platform. For projects that need a combined approach, VIGIL Eclipse5 provides a PA/VA solution where a single system supports both PA and voice alarm with clear priorities and control. Where it suits the building, this can simplify operation and reduce duplicated infrastructure, while still protecting the life safety function.
We support project teams with system design input and specification support, so the voice solution integrates properly from the start.
Emergency Voice Communication and OmniCALL
Emergency Voice Communication (EVC) provides a dedicated communication path between a control point and key locations in a building, including refuge areas and firefighting points. It supports coordination during an incident and gives people a reliable way to request help and receive reassurance.
OmniCALL is Baldwin Boxall’s newest EVC system, designed and manufactured in the UK. OmniCALL suits new installations and retrofit projects, including busy sites where access can be limited and downtime needs to be controlled. OmniCALL also handles residential EVC applications in line with BS 9991:2024. Baldwin Boxall developed OmniCALL to make installation, commissioning and long-term ownership more straightforward, with a focus on dependable operation and clear, secure communication.
Commissioning and maintenance
A life-safety voice system should not be treated as fit-and-forget. Commissioning is where teams put performance to the test and handover is where the building team gets comfortable with day-to-day operation. Maintenance is what keeps that confidence justified, year after year.
Baldwin Boxall provides commissioning and maintenance services for Voice Alarm and EVC systems, including routine inspections. For many organisations, this gives a direct route back to the manufacturer, with engineers who know the equipment inside out and can help with fault-finding, adjustments and ongoing performance checks. It also helps estates and facilities teams take a consistent approach across multiple buildings as systems are upgraded or replaced, reducing variation and making long-term management simpler.
Sustainability
Baldwin Boxall’s sustainability work focuses on practical improvements across the business and our products. We’re reducing our carbon footprint by cutting energy consumption, improving operational efficiency and making more environmentally responsible choices across our supply chain. We also consider product and packaging decisions that can reduce material use, shipping impact and waste.
As a UK manufacturer, Baldwin Boxall doesn’t treat sustainability as a separate programme. It’s part of how we operate and how we plan for the long term, with a focus on steady improvements rather than headline claims.
For Government Business readers responsible for multi-site estates, we help build a consistent approach that teams can specify with confidence, operate day to day and maintain over the long term.
