A £5 million project to improve Jaywick Sands road is now complete after two years.
More than £5 million has been spent to build new road surfaces and improve street drainage in 31 of Jaywick Sands’ roads in a project led by Essex County Council.
Residents have warmly welcomed the improvements as they have solved specific access and safety problems, and lifted the area visually.
John Aldridge, chairman counsellor, Essex County Council, said: “I am delighted to see the works done to transform the roads and pavements in Jaywick Sands.
“The before and after pictures I have seen today are a real testament to the improvements this investment by the county council and Tendring District Council has delivered in the local area. We are very pleased that the district council, the county council and local residents have worked together on this magnificent project.”
Kevin Bentley, deputy leader at Essex County Council, said: “Last week, the council announced its new organisation strategy, which includes ambitions to help create great places to grow up, live and work; and enable inclusive economic growth.
“This investment encourages both things and, just as importantly, addresses specific concerns that the residents raised more than two years ago. This is a great stride forward and proof that Essex continues to invest in its infrastructure.
“We are always ready to step in to support our economy and help it to flourish. This great project is clear evidence of this; working closely with residents, our highway engineering teams and Tendring District Council.”
