Buckinghamshire road schemes win £6 million funding
Two major Buckinghamshire road improvement schemes have won £6.32 million of government funding.
The schemes are among 76 across the country awarded funding totalling £244 million, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has announced.
The £6.32 million will be divided between an improvement project for the A40 from High Wycombe town centre to Loudwater, and an improvement scheme for the A418 Oxford Road, Aylesbury.
The High Wycombe scheme includes proposals to improve journey time along the London Road, better pedestrian crossings and traffic control to ease congestion. It will receive £4.13 million.
At Aylesbury, the scheme includes plans to ease traffic queueing between Fowler Road and the Hen & Chickens roundabout, improve walkways and cycleways, and install synchronised traffic light controls. It will receive £2.19 million.
Mark Shaw, Buckinghamshire County Council deputy leader and transport cabinet member welcomed the funding and said it would help relieve urban congestion, improve safety and journey time reliability, and help to unlock economic growth.
He said: “We're looking continually for opportunities to bid for government money to invest in Buckinghamshire's roads, to help stimulate economic growth, deal with the impact of housing growth, and help ease congestion. This funding will do a great deal to make life better for our residents and businesses.”
