Redbridge Council and Energy Efficient Solutions Group Partner for Large-scale Decarbonisation Project

With 15 years of experience in the LED industry, EES Group were identified as the ideal partner to drive forward Redbridge Council’s sustainability agenda. The long-term partnership has created a solid foundation for the ongoing transformation of Redbridge borough's educational and communal facilities.

Redbridge is a bustling borough of over 300,000 people in the heart of Greater London. Over the last 13 years, the borough has emerged as a beacon for sustainable change. The council has partnered with Energy Efficient Solutions Group (EES Group) to drive forward their net-zero ambitions through a large-scale decarbonisation project. The council have set a target to combat the effects of climate change, pledging to make all operations carbon-neutral by 2030 and eliminate emissions entirely by 2050. A significant step towards these targets has been the ongoing transformation of the borough's education and communal spaces through a strategic lighting project.

Identifying the potential for massive electricity savings, the council initiated a project to replace the old inefficient lighting with energy-efficient LED alternatives. These alternatives would not only enable significant savings but would substantially improve the environment for the public. These facilities were meticulously analysed to determine the optimal LED solution for each room, considering their usage and capabilities.

Following a successful UK-wide tender process in September 2019, EES Group emerged as the ideal company to undertake the project, with leading expertise in the LED industry and proven efficiency in managing mass-scale projects. After initially being appointed 20 sites to upgrade, Redbridge extended the contract to include additional properties, which highlighted their confidence in EES Group's ability to excel in effectively delivering installations. This confidence was maintained through the knowledge that every EES Group LED product is certified by the UK governing body, the Lighting Industry Association (LIA), to guarantee the quality of the products.

With 15 years of experience in lighting design, installations, and project management, coupled with an impressive portfolio of clients across various sectors, EES Group reinforced their position as a leader in the LED lighting sector. During these 15 years, they have worked with some key clients in a variety of sectors, including the Bank of England and the NHS, which has over 3200 sites in an ongoing 5-year project, culminating in over 1 million luminaries.

The key driver for this initiative was energy efficiency, yet the positive impact extended beyond. EES Group thoroughly analysed each room, catering for different necessities with anticipated. The upgrades were compliant with standard and emergency lighting regulations, with sensors used for areas with low usage to create an optimised installation.

EES Group identified that communication plays a pivotal role in the ongoing success of its partnership with Redbridge Council. Their project managers engage consistently with key stakeholders, including site managers, business development managers, and head teachers, which ensures minimal disruption during the planning and execution phase. EES Group appointed a dedicated project manager in 2019 which has created a solid, trustworthy partnership over the 4 years of commitment to a more sustainable future. Their project manager has been the singular point of contact to ensure a steady flow of communication between all involved parties.

The commitment shown by both organisations is one of the reasons for the seamless execution of the initiative. Redbridge Council’s commitment to its decarbonisation targets has been achieved through EES Group’s ability to deliver optimised and efficient installations. Together, the partnership has made a significant contribution towards achieving the council’s net-zero ambitions.

EES Group ensure that environmental responsibility is at the forefront of their ethos. The company ensures that the necessary measures are in place to maintain environmentally safe disposal of replaced products, with a 10-year warranty on LEDs. This provided Redbridge with confidence in the quality and longevity of the products they were investing in and highlighted that both parties shared the same goal – an environmentally friendly future.

This collaboration has not only enhanced the lighting for Redbridge Council but has highlighted the impact of allied efforts to upgrade to sustainable and renewable solutions. Over the 4-year partnership, Redbridge Council has saved 1,650t in carbon annually, with an impressive payback period of 1.8 years. This project has illuminated a sustainable path for the future of Redbridge borough, underscoring the impact of strategic partnerships in achieving environmental goals and creating a net-zero carbon future.

“Energy Efficient Solutions Group were a pleasure to work with, our allocated project manager kept us in the loop throughout and made the whole process stress-free”. – Jacob Adekunle – Carbon Reduction Manager
