Women in the Fire Service UK

Since 1993, Women in the Fire Service UK (WFS) has been helping to build a more progressive Fire and Rescue Service. A not-for-profit and independent voluntary group, it works to help improve recruitment, retention and progression of women in the Fire and Rescue Service. It does this by providing local and national opportunities for professional development through events, bespoke training, coaching, and mentoring programmes.

WFS works together with Fire and Rescue Services in developing a culture of equality of opportunity and in supporting all women to achieve their full potential within it. WFS offers Corporate and Individual Membership (women and men can be members). Membership and delegate fees help support its continued work to promote gender equality in the UK and overseas, influence national policy, and to research issues affecting women in the fire service.

WFS’ annual National Training and Development event hosted at the Fire Service College is now in its 19th year. Corporate Membership gives access to discounts on delegate fees, access to training opportunities, and shows commitment to women working in the Fire and Rescue Service.
