Aberdeenshire Council elects new co-leader after ‘Legogate’ row

Aberdeenshire Council has elected Alison Evison as its new co-leader, following the so-called Legogate row, in which the former council leader expressed dissatisfaction over his Legoland accommodation.

Martin Kitts-Hayes, of Aberdeenshire Council, was due to attend the North Sea Commission in Denmark in June, but returned from a foreign conference claiming his accommodation was akin to a ‘glorified shed’.

However, Kitt-Hayes decision to return home caused concern amongst his colleagues and Danish hosts, and has since stepped down as leader.

Evison will now work alongside the SNP’s Richard Thomson, who is the other co-leader.
