Oakberry Farm

Oakberry Farm has been a working farm for many years, mainly growing arable crops. In 1998 a small area of land was used to plant Christmas Trees. At that time it was not anticipated that the Christmas Tree venture would amount to selling more than those few trees.

From the very first Christmas that we began trading it became obvious that we could sell far more trees than we had planted.

Since then, each year many hundreds and then thousands of tiny trees have been transplanted from special nurseries to be grown on at Oakberry Farm.

Great care is taken to look after the young trees, feeding them, weeding them and trimming them to shape as they grow. We now have several thousand trees available for sale every year.

It has always been our aim to sell only the best quality trees possible, whether actually grown at Oakberry Farm or those occasionally bought in to offer as wide a range as possible.

Supply Management

One of the most difficult aspects of growing Christmas Trees is knowing how many trees, and what size we will be selling in six or seven or even  twenty-seven years time.    Trees do not grow overnight but increase in height by approximately  one foot per year.   Without the aid of a crystal ball it is a near impossible task taking into account  recessions, pandemics and, of course the weather effecting both growing conditions over the year and ‘choose and cut’ sales during the run up to Christmas.    Generally we have succeeded in balancing supply and demand and are nearly able to please everyone!

Every year we plant thousands of trees and in 2003 we made the decision to reserve areas of the plantation to grow on to be large display trees.  This is something we now do every couple of years  to ensure a good supply of every size of tree from 4” (1.2m) up to 24” (7.3m).
