Understanding the issues that matter
Levelling Up is key on the Government’s agenda to improve the economic performance of cities in Northern England to match that of London and the South East. Disparities in economic performance require sustained long-term attention. Our role as strategic advisers is to realise the potential by creating visionary masterplans, bringing the best parties together, generating additional revenue and economic advantage.
The government’s ‘Build Back Better’ plan for growth provides a unique opportunity for a new dawn of regeneration. Infrastructure assets can deliver the increased confidence and return on investment that investors want, as their lifespan tends to be decades longer than other assets. Combine the two holistically and a ripple effect is seen at all levels. Investors looking for high-yield investments want to diversify, and infrastructure is a highly transferable asset offering security thanks to the underlying physical nature.
We provide innovative thinking about intelligent infrastructure and consider the potential of digital and data as well as the physical asset, while enhancing people’s experience, transforming great ideas into real opportunities. By connecting and collaborating with organisations we can deliver lasting impact, attracting not only more private sector investment but private sector financing by freeing up land for much-needed development.
Case Study: TfL; unlocking a strategy for efficiency
Background: In May 2018, Transport for London (TfL) appointed CBRE to support the creation of the new Estates Management Directorate. As the largest landlord in London, TfL has a vast and varied portfolio of property and assets.
What we did: Our dedicated team worked collaboratively with TfL to provide a flexible and responsive engagement providing specialist advisory services as new requirements emerged. Together we developed the purpose and policies of the Directorate including target services, stakeholder communications, and an outline benefits framework whereby each initiative demonstrated benefits to the business and passengers.
CBRE considered and made recommendations on new and improved Business Processes to establish a multi-functional Estates Directorate capable of providing services across the TfL business, identifying value add cashable benefits.

Infrastructure has remained a key priority for investment by successive UK governments. The interplay between infrastructure development and the development of land and property, including the socio-economic development and placemaking this creates is clear to see.
