Damp Detectives Ltd

Damp Detectives Ltd Is a company of independent unbiased surveyors who are saving Home Owners, Landlords and Housing Associations thousands of pounds. So how can we help you?

There are hundreds of Homes held by the MOD and Local Authorities which suffer constantly from mould, condensation and damp and a large percentage of the budget is spent on contractors and products which offer temporary solutions as the problems and complaints keep coming back.

Condensation and surface mould are often blamed on lifestyle usually by visual inspection. Damp Detectives use technology to identify how much the property, tenants and domestic equipment contribute to the problem. By knowing this, simple inexpensive remedies can be made to permanently cure the issue.

Take cavity wall insulation for example.  For years companies have made a fortune injecting  cavities with insulation. Now many of those companies are racing around taking the insulation out. Why? Because it was put in for the wrong reason and created an environment which increased the rate that mould formed. It is a lack of education in moisture which creates many problems, but the expertise of Damp Detectives is able to resolve them.

The government have been so worried by the condition of the housing stock that they created the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG)  for Healthy Homes which studied what needed to be done to improve the situation. Damp Detectives were involved and contributed in these meetings. The result was a white paper in Oct 2018.

The Executive Summary is

Houses and buildings that cause or exacerbate health conditions cost the economy and our society each and every year: in healthy life years, reliance and use of healthcare services, educational attendance and attainment and work productivity and absenteeism. However, it is only by taking a holistic approach to delivering healthy homes and buildings that the real benefits can be realised; otherwise we risk making gains by tackling one issue, simply to lose them again by failing to tackle another. It is essential we continue to strive for energy efficient homes that reduce carbon emissions and energy bills, as well as ensuring that we are reducing the health burden too. By tackling the numerous health and wellbeing issues in UK homes and buildings, we have a real opportunity to create and use buildings to promote positive health and wellbeing, make savings in healthcare costs, increase educational attainment, improve productivity and allow our citizens to lead longer, healthier and happier lives.

Damp Detectives work together with Local Council maintenance teams to advise on the best remedial process. We are also working with Architects to improve the designs of future buildings to meet all the recommendations of the white paper.
