Plas Menai is the Sport Wales National Outdoor Centre for Wales, based on the banks of the Menai Strait overlooking the Isle of Anglesey.
Open all year round, the Centre manages a busy programme of courses and activities, including Swiftwater Rescue Training. Developed by Rescue 3, the internationally recognised Swiftwater Rescue training scheme follows DEFRA module guidelines and covers a range of scenarios for those using boats or ropework to safely manage an on-water incident.
For key organisations such as Fire and Rescue services whose staff may be called upon at any time to attend a wide range of incidents involving the water, it is essential team members are well versed and rehearsed in how to deal with an often-developing situation.
The Centre provides direct access onto the Menai Strait via its large slipway and 'The Swellies' a body of fast flowing water regarded as one of the best locations for swiftwater flood rescue training in the UK, is a short journey away.
With outstanding shore-side facilities, including fully catered ensuite accommodation, all the latest kit and equipment, classrooms, changing rooms and briefing areas, it is one of the few places able to deliver fully residential swiftwater flood rescue training packages.
